First time renting
First Apartment at 18 With No Credit
No credit history is not the same thing as bad credit, and it is not a dealbreaker here. Vegas Value Living approves on income rather than a credit score, so a first job, a benefit award, or a voucher can carry your application. Call (702) 820-5089 and we will tell you exactly what to bring.
No credit and bad credit are two different things
Most rental advice online blurs these together, which is why first-time renters walk in expecting the worst. Here is the actual difference.
No credit file
You have never borrowed money, so there is nothing to score. A screening report comes back thin or empty. That is a blank page, not a warning.
Bad credit
There is a history and parts of it went sideways: missed payments, an account in collections, a charge off. Different conversation, and we still have it.
What we look at
Income you can document, a photo ID, and a real conversation. There is no credit score minimum at either property.
What a landlord actually checks when you have no credit
A large corporate complex hands your application to screening software. That software expects a number back from a credit bureau, and when your file is thin it returns something like insufficient credit history. Nobody at the leasing office reads your situation. The result is a decline that has almost nothing to do with whether you would be a good tenant, and it lands on a lot of people who have done nothing wrong except be new to renting.
Strip away the software and a landlord is really asking three questions. Can this person pay the rent this month. Is the money likely to keep arriving next month. If something goes wrong, will they pick up the phone and talk about it. A credit score is a shortcut for answering the first two, and it is a poor shortcut for somebody who has never taken out a loan.
We are owner-operated, so we answer those three questions directly instead of outsourcing them. We verify who you are and we look at documented income. A basic background and identity check is still part of the process, and we tell you where you stand before you spend money on a deposit. What we do not do is set a credit score floor and let it decide for us. The longer version of that approach is on our page about no credit check apartments in Las Vegas.
If there is something else on your record besides an empty credit file, say a past eviction or a lease that went bad in a roommate situation, raise it early rather than hoping it does not surface. Read second chance leasing in Las Vegas to see how we handle it. Bringing it up first almost always goes better than having us find it.
What to bring to your first application
The single biggest thing that speeds up a first-time renter is walking in with documents instead of descriptions. Gather what you have from this list.
Not sure your paperwork counts? Call (702) 820‑5089 to confirm what documentation works for your situation. Leasing support is available in English and Spanish.
Co-signer or no co-signer
A co-signer, sometimes called a guarantor, is someone who signs the lease alongside you and agrees to cover the rent if you cannot. Plenty of first-time renters get asked for one, usually because a screening system has nothing else to go on. It is a fair question to have an answer ready for before you start touring units.
Whether one is needed in your case depends on your specific situation, and we would rather tell you straight than have you guess. Call (702) 820-5089 to confirm what documentation works for your situation, including whether a co-signer would help. Ask that on the first call, before you pay an application fee anywhere, so you are not paying just to find out.
If you plan to bring a co-signer, line them up early. They will need their own photo ID and their own income documents, and it is far easier to collect that before you apply than to chase it while the unit you want sits on the market. If there is nobody in your life who can play that role, say so on the call. That is a common situation, not an embarrassing one, and it does not end the conversation here.
Moving in with a roommate is the other common path into a first lease. The application fee is $50 per person, so budget for each of you, and remember that a lease you sign together is a lease you are both on. Choose that person with the same care you use choosing the apartment.
Proving income when the job is brand new
There is an awkward gap that catches almost every first-time renter. You got hired two weeks ago, your first paycheck has not cleared, and the application asks for recent pay stubs you do not have yet. That gap is normal and it is workable.
A signed offer letter does most of the work. Ask your employer for one on company letterhead showing your start date, your pay rate, and your scheduled hours. Then add bank statements as soon as the first deposit lands, so there is a paper trail confirming the letter was real. Two documents that agree with each other beat one document every time.
If your income is tips, gig work, or cash, the bank is your best witness. Deposit what you earn instead of keeping it in a drawer, because a statement showing steady deposits over a few months tells a story a screening report never will. If you are earning across more than one job, bring the paperwork for all of them and let the total speak.
Income that comes through a program counts too. If you hold a Housing Choice Voucher, start with Section 8 apartments in Las Vegas, since voucher holders pay no application fee here. If you are still working out what you might qualify for, housing assistance programs in Las Vegas lays out the options in one place.

From first call to keys
Five steps, no mystery. This is the same process whether it is your first lease or your tenth.
- 1
Call or apply online
Tell us which property interests you and roughly what you earn. Nothing you say on that first call counts against you. We are checking whether the math works before either of us spends time.
- 2
Confirm your documents
We tell you which of your documents work and which gaps to fill. This is the step that saves first-time renters the most time, so ask every question you have here.
- 3
Tour the unit
See the actual apartment, not a listing photo. Bring somebody you trust if that helps. You can book a time on our schedule page or set it up on the phone.
- 4
Apply and get reviewed
The fee is $50 per person, waived for voucher holders. We review income and run a basic identity and background check, then tell you where you stand instead of leaving you refreshing an inbox.
- 5
Sign and move in
Security deposit is one month of rent and negotiable. Because we are owner-operated, there is no corporate approval queue between you and the keys.

Renting at 18 with no credit, FAQ
Can I get an apartment at 18 with no credit?
Yes. No credit history is an empty file, not a bad one, and there is no credit score minimum here. What carries your application is income you can document and a straight conversation about your situation. Call (702) 820-5089 and we will tell you exactly what to bring.
Is no credit worse than bad credit?
They are different problems. Bad credit means there is a record and something went wrong on it. No credit means there is nothing to read yet, which is normal for a first-time renter. Neither one is an automatic no at Vegas Value Living, because we approve on income rather than a score.
What documents do I need for my first apartment?
A government photo ID and proof of income you can hand over. That proof can be recent pay stubs, a signed offer letter if you just got hired, bank statements showing deposits, a benefit award letter, or a Housing Choice Voucher. Call (702) 820-5089 to confirm what documentation works for your situation.
Do I need a co-signer to rent at 18?
It depends on your situation, so ask before you pay for an application anywhere. Call (702) 820-5089 and we will tell you where you stand. If you do plan to bring a co-signer, have their photo ID and income documents ready at the same time as yours.
I just started my first job and have no pay stubs yet. What can I use?
Bring the signed offer letter showing your start date, pay rate, and hours, plus bank statements once the first deposit lands. Call (702) 820-5089 to confirm what documentation works for your situation before you apply.
How much money do I need up front?
The application fee is $50 per person, and there is no application fee for Section 8 voucher holders. The security deposit is one month of rent and it is negotiable. Rents start at $900 a month for a studio at Bonanza Park.
Do you rent to people with no rental history at all?
Yes. Every lease starts somewhere, and a first-time renter has no landlord to call for a reference by definition. We look at what you can show us now: income, identification, and how the conversation goes.
Can I have a pet in my first apartment?
Yes. Pets are welcome at both properties with a $200 refundable pet deposit plus $20 per month, one pet per unit. Your credit situation does not change the pet policy.
Everybody starts somewhere
Apply online or call and we will walk you through what your first application needs. No credit score minimum, no guessing.
